ROSEMONT, Ill. - An NFL agreement with an Elyria company that produces on-field football helmets and shoulder pads is set to expire next year
Riddell expects to continue its relationship with the National Football League (NFL), despite the league's intention to do away with the promotional rights for an "official helmet of the NFL," the company said in a news release Monday.
During the 2012-13 NFL season, 68 percent of the players wore Riddell helmets, according to the release. The company expects this number to remain steady in the future after the current agreement expires.
"We do not anticipate any impact on our Elyria operations or other facilities as a result of our NFL agreement expiring," Riddell said in a written statement. "We are proud of our continuing leadership as one of the largest employers in Elyria and Lorain County. Our Elyria facility is and will continue to be a vital component of Riddell's sustained industry leadership."
Riddell produces more than half of the helmets used in the football industry, including both high school and collegiate teams.
