Student at Larkmoor Elementary in Lorain brings 2 fake guns to school, police say

LORAIN, Ohio - A Larkmoor Elementary School second grade student brought two fake guns to school Friday, police said.

According to Lorain police, one of the fake weapons was orange in color and the other resembled a real gun.

A student notified school staff late Friday morning after the student in question took one of the guns out of his book bag and pointed it at another student.

Lorain City Schools assistant superintendent David Hall sent the following letter to parents:

"At approximately 9:00 am a student was reported to have an object which resembled a weapon in his book bag. The second grade student's book bag was confiscated immediately. The bag was examined and a 'toy' gun was found in the student book bag. The incident was resolved by 9:30 am. Other safety precautions were implemented in the school to assure school safety. The Lorain Police Department Safety Resource Officer was notified of the incident and provided assistance to the school immediately. The student was removed from the school with school disciplinary action.

"We would like to thank our students, teachers, and police department for their quick and immediate response. We would also like to remind parents to reinforce to their children to keep all toys at home. The school system, following Ohio Revised Code, has zero tolerance towards weapons and look-alike weapons."

Larkmoor Elementary School is located at 1201 Nebraska Ave. in Lorain.
