Five Lorain County men indicted in connection with deadly heroin & fentanyl overdoses

Five Lorain County men have been federally indicted for allegedly selling heroin and fentanyl that resulted in three deaths.

Four of the men were from Elyria — Delante Lunn, 36; Cecil Shelton, 22; Jesus D. Cruz, 35; and Leon Hale, 35. Russell Davis, 47, of Lorain was also indicted. 

According to the indictment, the men were charged with distributing heroin, fentanyl and cocaine.

On Feb. 18, Lunn sold a mixture of heroin and fentanyl in Elyria that led to a fatal overdose, according to the indictment. He was charged with distributing both. 

A month later on March 18 in Elyria, Shelton allegedly sold heroin resulting in a fatal overdose. He was charged with distributing heroin.

Authorities say someone died from the fentanyl Cruz sold in Elyria on March 2. He also illegally possessed a .357 revolver despite a prior conviction for heroin trafficking, according to the indictment.

Hale sold heroin and fentanyl on Feb. 21 in Elyria that resulted in an overdose. He was charged with distributing heroin, fentanyl and cocaine.

Fentanyl that Davis sold on March 7 in Lorain caused a fatal overdose according to the indictment. 

Ryan Sumliin, 27 of Akron was charged in an unrelated case. He sold a mix of heroin and fentanyl that caused a fatal overdose in Akron on March 28, 2015. 

The U.S. Attorney's Office has now indicted 16 cases of selling heroin or fentanyl that caused death or serious injury.
