LORAIN, Ohio - Jeremy McDowell is doing what no parent ever wants to do. He spent much of his day in the city of Lorain planning his son's funeral.
Deandre McDowell's body was found in the 3700 block of Lexington Avenue. Police have released few details, but said they think the death may be suspicious.
"I just want the people who done this to my son to step up and take ownership of what they did," Jeremy McDowell said.
Deandre's mother dropped him off at school on Thursday. That's the last time his family saw him.
Jeremy McDowell said his son, 17, wanted to be an engineer and was good with computers.
"He was always somebody that was willing to help others," he said. "He was the type of kid that could brighten the day."
The Lorain County Medical Examiner's office said there were no visible marks on the body indicating trauma. The autopsy results have not been released and it could take weeks for the results of toxicology tests.
The family is asking for the public's help with burial services. Donations to the Deandre McDowell Memorial Fund can be made at any Key Bank.
