ELYRIA, Ohio - Saturday, June 14 is Flag Day and they are rolling it all out in Elyria. Generations of citizens will fill historic Ely square to celebrate the 236th anniversary of the adoption of the American flag.
The Elks Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will put on a patriotic ceremony.
Families can learn from the veterans dressed in period costume telling stories about the evolution of the flag.
Mayor Holly Brinda is very proud of her city.
"There is no prouder moment than when a mayor looks out and sees the citizens of our community take a moment and display reverence and patriotism for their country and it's moving because it doesn't happen every day in this country and I think that makes our community special," said Mayor Brinda.
Elyria has been honoring the flag with ceremonies since before Flag Day and before World War One. The program begins Saturday at 7 p.m.
