Getting off the school bus shouldn't be so tough for Jaleel Phillips.
Cars try to dodge a mine field of potholes.
So does a school bus driver on a bumpy road in Sheffield Township in Lorain County.
The road is in disrepair.
On the bus is 8 year old Jaleel who has brittle bone disease.
School bus driver Kelly Harrish said driving over the potholes jostles Jaleel.
"That hurts him and he cries,” Harrish said.
To make matters worse, the road inside Sheffield Estates apartment complex where Jaleel lives is in even worse shape. Making the ride painful for Jaleel.
"There's times we get done and he's hurting, he's in pain because he's a delicate little guy,” Harrish said.
Jaleel's dad said the potholes put his son at risk.
“It's pretty bad, It's pretty terrible, it messes with his back, he has back problems. He's just dealing with the pain, it's hard for him,” said Jaleel’s dad Matthew Phillips.
The Lorain County Engineer's office said the road outside the apartment complex is owned by Sheffield Reality based out of New York.
newsnet5’s Paul Kiska called the reality company. They said they're trying to get the township to take over the road, but they wouldn't answer other questions like who will fix the road.
A Sheffield Township official said fixing the road is the responsibility of Sheffield Reality.
As for the road in the apartment complex the manager said the road will be paved this summer.
Jaleel's family just hopes someone fixes the roads and that it's in time for next school year.
