AVON LAKE, Ohio - A student at an Avon Lake middle school has been diagnosed with the antibiotic resistant infection MRSA, school officials said.
On Monday, a letter was sent to parents informing them that a Learwood Middle School student has MRSA, which is a type of staph infection.
"We also want to reassure you that our District has taken a proactive approach to this problem and has instituted measures to help prevent the spread of bacteria, germs and MRSA. Our custodians clean all areas regularly with a disinfectant," the letter said.
School officials said janitors did extra cleaning of restrooms, gyms, cafeterias, buses and classrooms.
The skin infection can often look like a spider bite, boil or pimple.
