AVON LAKE, Ohio - A "Food Fight" between businesses will provide food for thousands of area families this holiday season and into the new year.
The Pin Oak Parkway Food Fight is a charitable effort involving several large and small businesses that generated enough money and food to provide an estimated 55,000 to 65,000 meals in the weeks to come according to organizers.
Second Harvest Food Bank in Lorain said this could be one of the biggest holiday food drives they've seen.
The money and food drive ran from Nov. 1 through Dec. 3.
Thogus Products Company-a national supplier of plastic injection molding products-has partnered with Second Harvest for the last two years to raise money and food for needy families during the holiday season.
Second Harvest said they are serving 12 percent more people at Lorain County Food Pantries this year than in 2011.
Forty percent of the meals served go to people under the age of 18. They hope to serve about 40,000 people in Lorain County through its 45 food pantries.
