ELYRIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio - An Elyria man was seriously hurt after crashing the car he was driving Monday night.
The Elyria Post of The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it happened at about 7:20 p.m. when the 46-year-old victim was was traveling northbound on Murray Ridge Road and failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection with Griswold Road, driving off the left side of the roadway and striking a utility pole before coming to rest on the north side of the roadway.
He was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and alcohol is a suspected factor, troopers said.
The victim was taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital. His current condition is not available at this time.
Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
Griswold and Murray Ridge Roads are closed at the west intersection due to downed power lines. Ohio Edison is at the scene and it is unknown when the roadways will reopen, according to the highway patrol.
