Her face and neck still swollen and bruised from the attack by her own daughters, 56-year-old Karen Nestasie speaks out about domestic violence.

She said both of her daughters have mental illnesses and quit taking their medications after spending a year and a half in a psychiatric center.

"They wouldn't receive help, they wouldn't get back on their medicine and they have mental health issues," said Nestasie.

Nestasie watched in court  as her daughters 22-year-old Jennifer Barnes and her 24-year-old Joanna appeared in front of a Lake County judge on charges of attempted murder and domestic violence.

Police said the sisters admitted to trying to kill their mother on Thanksgiving Day by trying to strangle her with computer chords inside their Willowick home.

Their mother escaped after climbing through a bedroom window.

Before she escaped police said the sisters also tried to suffocate their mom with a pillow.

"My heart is broken in a time when I'm showing them love, that they would do this," Nestasie said.

Bond was set at $50,000.
