Anthony Bencivenni, a Wickliffe resident, was run over by a vehicle while walking home late Saturday and left in the street for hours before being found early that morning, according to Wickliffe police.

Bencivenni, 27, was found lying on the ground near a business at the Town Square Shopping Center at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Drenik Drive around 7:10 a.m. on Aug. 6. Police said he was taken to an area hospital with several broken bones and serious injuries. He remains hospitalized.

Police said their investigations showed that Bencivenni was walking home between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Drenik Drive south of Euclid Avenue. The driver allegedly fled after hitting Bencivenni.

Wickliffe police said the area is not well-traveled, and Bencivenni may have crawled from the scene, which contributed to the delay in his discovery.

Bencivenni's condition is serious, police said. He has not been able to share any details of the incident with officers, and there were no witnesses to the hit-and-run. Detectives are reviewing videotape from two area businesses. Police have said the suspect may have damage to the front end and/or lower front corner of their vehicle.

The police have shared a photo of Bencivenni's pants, which purports to show distinct markings from a vehicle's tire. Police are encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to call Wickliffe Police Department at 440-943-1234.
