Police are searching for the culprits who left a huge hole in the side of a convenience store after smashing a minivan into the building.

Mentor-on-the-Lake police reported officers responded on Sunday to an alarm at a convenience store on Munson Road. When they arrived, officers found a large hole in the west side of the building.

According to police, a minivan with rear-end damage was found in a parking space next to the building. Mentor police were contacted and helped to check the interior of the store.

Police learned that the minivan used to smash the wall and enter the building was stolen from a local apartment complex. The only item missing from the store was an ATM machine. The suspects allegedly left the area with another vehicle.

Mentor-on-the-Lake police said this crime may be connected to a large ring of smash and grab thieves working throughout the Cleveland Metropolitan area.
