Teen rescued after falling down cliff at Chapin Forest Reservation in Kirtland

KIRTLAND, Ohio - A teen was rescued after falling down a cliff in Lake County Wednesday night.

Accident reported to Lake Co dispatch around 7:56 p.m. when a woman said a man fell from the cliff at the Chapin Forest Reservation of the Lake Metroparks in Kirtland.

Kirtland Fire Chief Anthony Hutton said they rescued a 6 foot 5 inch tall, 280-pound 18-year-old who is from Chardon.

Hutton said responders located the victim at the bottom of the cliff between the State Route 306 entrance and the Hobart Road entrance to the park. It was determined that the victim had entered a restricted area before falling off the cliff.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights with non-life threatening injuries.

Rescuers faced challenges in helping the victim, which included carrying him through a swamp area to an RTX and then traveling another mile to reach a main road.

Hutton advised people that restricted areas are roped off for a reason.

Chapin Forest Reservation is 390 acres and located off of Chillicothe Road.
