Elderly woman, man, dog rescued from flood waters in Vermilion, more rescue efforts underway

VERMILION, Ohio - An elderly woman, a man and dog were rescued Saturday morning after being trapped in their homes by flood waters and ice.

The rescue took place around 11:10 a.m. Saturday on Riverside Drive in a low lying area near the Vermilion River.

NewsChannel5 was at the scene as crews from the Vermilion Fire Department deployed boats into the water to quickly rescue the woman, her dog and another male homeowner. The three are expected to be okay.

Officials from the Vermilion Fire Department said more rescue efforts are possibly underway, as several other neighboring fire departments arrived to assist.

Early Saturday morning, Vermilion police had issued mandatory evacuations for residents on Riverside Dr. due to flooding of the river.
