EASTLAKE, Ohio - A Cleveland woman has posted bond after getting caught shoplifting with her 12-year-old son in tow.
Eastlake police said on the evening of Saturday, April 7, officers were called to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint.
On scene, they detained 30-year-old Kanita Sheppard and her son, after reviewing surveillance footage of the two placing more than $465 worth of stolen merchandise into a tote without paying.
At first, the woman denied knowing the child until officers showed her surveillance footage of the two arriving and shopping together. Surveillance cameras also captured the mother watching from a distance as the child attempted to exit the store.
Police released the 12-year-old to a family member. His mother, however, was charged with shoplifting, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstructing justice. She has since bonded herself out of jail.
