Mentor Police report officer-involved shooting

MENTOR, Ohio - A Mentor Police officer fired his gun during their response to a disturbance Saturday night on Deepwood Boulevard.

No one was hit by the bullet, officers said.

Police said Kenneth Ebel, 56, was walking in and out of his home in the 8000 block of Deepwood Boulevard, threatening his neighbors and police. When police arrived, Ebel barricaded his front door with a chair and threatened to stab the officers.

Police entered the home with a ballistic shield and the man charged officers with an object raised over his head. That's when the officer shot one round at the man, police said.

Ebel was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and aggravated menacing.
