Mentor Police investigating why a car drove into a home Sunday

MENTOR, Ohio - Two children and two adults were injured when a car drove into their home early Sunday morning.

Mentor Police and Fire say that a 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling southbound on Iroquois Trail at a high rate of speed.  The car went straight through the T-intersection of Iroquois Trail and Comanche Trail, went into a yard, and hit a home on Comanche Trail.

When the fire department arrived on scene, the car was completely inside the house.

An adult man, a three-year-old and an 18-month-old child were trapped inside due to the accident.

The infant with minor injuries and the 3-year-old boy with critical injuries had to be removed by emergency crews and life-flighted to Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. The 3-year-old boy was trapped underneath the car.

The adult male was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center for his injuries.

The mother of the children also had minor injuries. She was transported to Lake West where she was treated and released.

Willoughby and Mentor-on-the-Lake emergency units assisted on scene.

The occupants of the vehicle are in police custody. Their conditions are unknown.

The incident is under investigation.
