Man holds baby hostage during standoff with police in Mentor

A man took a child hostage during a six-hour standoff with police in Mentor. 

According to Mentor police, U.S. Marshals were serving a felony warrant at Connie Drive when the 32-year-old man became despondent and threatened to harm himself and shoot police. The Mentor SWAT team along with Lake County SWAT and the Mentor Hostage Negotiation Team were called to respond around 1:10 p.m.

Police learned there was a 5-month-old infant in the man's care at the time. Around 7:43 p.m. he surrendered to police and was turned over to the Eastlake Police Department. 

The 5-month-old infant was unharmed and released to a relative. The investigation is currently ongoing.
