Man killed while sitting in the road after motorcycle crash in Willoughby

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - A 67-year-old Willoughby man was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle and was struck by a car just after 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night on Kirtland Road near the Willoughby Kirtland border.

According to Willoughby police, James Martin lost control of his motorcycle while riding westbound on Kirtland Road and was sitting in the roadway when a witness stopped to help him. A 74-year-old woman driving eastbound on Kirtland Road then struck Martin as he sat in the roadway, dragging him.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman who struck Martin has not been charged at this time.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to police.

Police are asking if anyone witnessed the crash to call Lieutenant James Schultz at the Willoughby Police Department, 440-953-4212.
