Kristina New arrested, accused of stealing $75 worth of steaks from Painesville Twp. Giant Eagle

PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A Painesville Township woman was arrested Tuesday night, accused of stealing over $75 worth of special cut steaks from the Giant Eagle grocery store.

Lake County sheriff's deputies said Kristina New, 30, called the meat department at the Giant Eagle in Painesville Township and ordered four special cut steaks. She even instructed the meat cutter to wrap the cuts of meat extra tight so they wouldn't leak.

Sheriff's deputies said New picked up her order around 8 p.m. and was supposed to head to the cashier, but the meat cutter told a deputy that he observed New in the store without the steaks and carrying a black bag.

Deputies said New was detained while attempting to leave the store.

After a brief conversation, New opened her bag which contained the choice cuts of beef valued at $75.34, according to deputies

She was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail on charges of theft.
