PAINESVILLE, Ohio - A Painesville man is dead after his vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole Tuesday night, closing down a road for hours and disrupting power.

Lake County Sheriff's Office said a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound on Madison Avenue when the car left the south side of the road just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. It struck a Painesville City Power utility pole in the 700 block of Madison Avenue and sheared the pole at its base.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Craig McCroskey, 28, of Painesville, according to the Sheriff's Office.

McCroskey was pronounced dead upon arrival at Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord.

The accident shut down Madison Avenue for nearly two and a half hours, according to the Sheriff's Office. It also disrupted power service for Painesville and Perry Townships.
