$1,800 worth of lottery tickets, salad cooler stolen from 3rd Base Bar and Grille in Eastlake

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Police say $1,800 worth of lottery tickets, a salad cooler and numerous of other kitchen utensils were among the items stolen from an Eastlake bar.

Eastlake police said Walter J. Novak, 35, was arrested Tuesday at the scene of the crime, 3rd Base Bar and Grille, located at 35400 Vine St.

Officers caught Novak on a surveillance camera hauling a salad cooler, slicer, electric equipment, food products, beverage glasses and scratch-off lottery tickets from the business.

Officers said he even admitted stealing the odd array of items. When asked why, police said Novak explained the door was open so he took the stuff to keep them safe.

Novak was booked into the Eastlake Jail on charges of breaking and entering and two counts of theft. His bond was set at $5,000.

Police said the Ohio Lottery Commission is helping with the investigation and tracking the stolen tickets.
