MILLERSBURG, Ohio - A 17-year old Millersburg area boy has died after the car he was riding in crashed on State Route 557 Sunday afternoon near Millersburg.
Holmes County Sheriff Deputies said Tyson Miller was the front seat passenger in a 1999 Mercury driven by a 16-year old boy when the driver tried to pass another vehicle.
He lost control, overcorrected and went into a sideways skid, hitting a pile of sandstone blocks. The car then rolled over three times and came to rest on its wheels in the parking lot of Doughty Valley Hardware.
Deputies said Miller was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled and died at the scene.
The driver, and a second 16-year old passenger were wearing seat belts and were taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
Deputies said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash. However, speed at the time of the crash is estimated to have been between 65 and 75 miles an hour.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
