After an officer was struck during a traffic stop on U.S. 322 near Chardon last week, the Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a reminder to drivers to move over when approaching any vehicle with flashing or rotating lights parked on the roadside.

The video in the Facebook post below shows an incident where a sergeant with the OSHP Chardon Post was hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop. The sergeant’s injuries were not life threatening.

OSHP said moving over for vehicles with flashing or rotating lights is Ohio law. And, if moving over is not possible due to traffic or weather conditions, or if a second lane doesn’t exist, drivers should slow down and proceed with caution.

OSHP reported more than 10,000 drivers received citations for violating the move over law between 2011 and 2015.
