A local animal shelter is pitching in to help some of the four-legged survivors from the devastating flooding in Louisiana.

On Tuesday, Geauga County Humane Society's Rescue Village took in 27 dogs who were rescued from one of the many animal shelters affected by the high waters.

Tomorrow, Rescue Village will receive a transport of dogs & puppies who were saved from #LouisianaFlood2016. Many of these pups were rescued from flooded animal shelters in Louisiana and transferred to @atlantahumane, who we regularly receive transports from. Now they will travel North from Atlanta and after receiving medical treatment and a behavioral assessment from our staff, will be put up for adoption and will hopefully find their #ForeverHomes right here in Northeast Ohio. Hundreds of pets and shelter animals have been saved from the deadly flooding in southern Louisiana thanks to the efforts of many. We are so happy that we are able to play a role in helping some of these animals. We can't wait to meet these #rescuepups tomorrow and help them start working towards their #foreverfamily. @geauganews @fox8newscleveland @wkyc3 @wews5 @cleveland19news #RVnews

The animals were initially rescued by an animal welfare group in the state, Acadiana Animal Aid. They've taken in nearly 150 animals since the tragedy struck.

The group has worked to transport several animals to shelters across the country including Atlanta Humane, from whom Rescue Village regularly receives transports.

Each dog will receive any necessary treatment from the medical team at Rescue Village before being put up for adoption, which could happen as soon as this weekend.
