Vermilion officer indicted for felonious assault

Police Chief Christopher Hartung of the Vermilion Police Department requested that the alleged assault of Jacob Johnson by VPD Sgt. Aaron Bolton on September 6, 2015 be investigated.

According to police, Johnson was placed under arrest by Bolton during a disturbance at Rudy's Bar and Grill in Vermilion.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Hartung went to the sheriff's office and provided a letter of request with a number of documents, which contained videos related to the incident.

An indictment from Common Pleas Court of Erie County, Ohio stated Bolton knowingly caused serious physical harm to Johnson. Bolton was charged with felonious assault, assault and a specification regarding the felonious assault.

This ongoing criminal investigation was assigned to Detective Sergeant Kotsopoulos.
