The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left a Sandusky woman in serious condition early Monday.

The single-car crash happened around 2 a.m. on Mason Road west of Ransom Road in Oxford Township.

Officials say 24-year-old Melany Kochensparger was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer westbound on Mason Road when she failed to make a right turn, going off the left side of the road. The SUV then went back across the road and off the right side.

As the SUV went back across the road, it overturned several times, coming to rest on the right side in a nearby parking area, authorities said.

Kochensparger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

She was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center by EMS and then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Ohio State Patrol officials say alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
