Ohio trooper chases Elyria man through Erie, Huron, Lorain counties

VERMILIOM TOWNSHIP, Ohio - An Elyria man led authorities on a chase through three counties early Tuesday morning, the highway patrol says.

A trooper spotted a car speeding on Coen Road in Vermilion Township at about 1:30 a.m. The trooper tried to catch up with the car, but it kept going on Kneisel Road to state Route 60.

According to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, even when the trooper used his lights and sirens, the car did not stop and drove at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on SR 60.

The highway trooper followed the car into Huron County, where a Wakeman police officer joined the chase. The patrol said the two officers followed the car into Lorain County and that's when the car ran out of gas.

The 37-year-old passenger was not arrested, but both men were taken into custody at gunpoint. State troopers said Marcquise Swingler, 30, of Elyria, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, failing to comply with order of a police officer and reckless operation.

According to troopers, Swingler refused to take a chemical test for the OVI while at the Erie County Jail. He will be arraigned in Vermilion Municipal Court on March 27.
