Officer hits another car while trying to pass it

PERKINS TWP., Ohio - An officer and another person were injured in a crash Sunday afternoon.

Perkins Police Sergeant Jeff Musser was traveling south on Columbus Avenue near London Road just before 3pm Sunday. The police SUV vehicle had its lights and sirens activated.

The officer attempted to pass a car driving the same direction.

The other vehicle, driven by 50-year-old Mark Weikle of Sandusky, attempted to turn into a driveway on the left side of the road, where Sgt. Musser's SUV attempted to pass. The Perkins Police SUV hit Weikle's car, and both cars went off the left side of the road and into a yard.

Sgt. Musser was transported to Firelands ER and was treated and released.  He was wearing his safety belt.

Mr. Weikle was transported to Firelands ER with a possible broken leg.  He was not wearing his safety belt.

The crash is still under investigation.  Ohio State Highway Patrol Reconstruction was on scene.  No citation has been issued at this time.  Alcohol was not a factor in this crash.
