CLEVELAND - The Coast Guard rescued two boaters when their vessel took on water south of Kelleys Island in western Lake Erie.
The boat began taking on water around 9:05 p.m. Tuesday. Search and rescue controllers were notified and a boatcrew took off toward the scene.
The two boaters were brought to safety. A commercial salvage company then arrived and towed the boat to shore.
A hole in the boat's transom,
a usually flat area at the back of a boat where an outboard motor is typically mounted, caused the flooding.
The Coast Guard reminds boaters to inspect their boat and safety equipment before traveling on the Great Lakes to ensure the boat and equipment are functioning properly.
