Man dies, two others hospitalized in East 72nd Lake Erie water rescue

CLEVELAND - A man, who was rescued from Lake Erie Sunday along with a woman and boy, has died.

Crews were dispatched to the coastline near E. 72nd Street and North Marginal Road around 6:10 p.m. for a report of a child who fell into the water.

Witnesses told NewsChannel5 that a boy was fishing on the pier, when he fell into the water. The boy's mother, father and a good Samaritan then went in after him.

Crews arrived to the scene and pulled the victims from Lake Erie.

Firefighters said the 12-year-old boy was transported to Rainbow Babies Hospital. His condition was not released.

The woman was taken to MetroHealth Hospital where she is listed in stable condition, according to Cleveland EMS.

The man was also transported to MetroHealth Hospital, but died a short time later. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the drowning victim as Jonathan Davis, 29, of South Euclid.

The good Samaritan was not hurt.
