A Warrensville Heights Police Officer has been indicted on charges that he stole marijuana, guns and other evidence from the department's evidence room.

Andre Harmon, 54, of Cleveland, was charged with theft in office, tampering with records and possession of drugs.

He had worked at the department for almost 22 years, then retired in 2008 and worked as an evidence technician.

Court documents alleged he committed the thefts between 2010 and June of 2013, when Cuyahoga County Sheriff's deputies said they found the drugs and guns at his home.

The items he stole were worth more than $5,000, the indictment adds, and included a handgun and two shotguns.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty said that Harmon's housemate reported that there were boxes, a black bag and a "suspicious odor" coming from under the porch of their East 123rd Street home.

Harmon lived blocks from where four murdered women were found just days before, believed to be the work of a serial killer.

Deputies who responded to search the home found evidence bags and boxes from the Warrensville Heights Police Department.

Harmon is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 28.
