Commuters felt the full force of winter starting Monday morning and continuing throughout the day.

Snow fell across Northeast Ohio but hit the east side the hardest, making for unsafe road conditions.

State Route 2 westbound was partially closed in Mentor after multiple crashes were reported.

More than a dozen vehicles slid off the road in on Interstate 90 west in Concord around 1 p.m.

Semi driver Greg Safinuk told newsnet5.com the stretch along Cleveland's snow belt was the worst part of the trip from Canada.

"I have to watch out for the passenger cars because I can control my speed a lot better because you have a lot more weight and I feel bad for the cars because they’re all over the place," Safinuk said.

Crews battled subzero temperatures to pull several helpless semi trucks back onto the road.

"You've just got to take it easy they’re slippery," said I-90 driver Evon Brown. "We’re just trying to take it easy so we can get through."

Police in Willoughby said they've responded to more than 30 accidents since noon on Sunday.

Flakes weren't the only problem. Residents braced for bitter cold temperatures as many areas felt wind chills below zero.
