Everything you need to know for Oct. 25: Indians in the World Series, Cavaliers home opener

With the Cleveland Indians going against the Chicago Cubs in the World Series Tuesday, it's going to be busy in the city with locals and outsiders rolling in for games 1 and 2.

The city of Cleveland is expecting significant traffic delays and is planning to cut off parking areas throughout the downtown area due to the World Series and the Cleveland Cavaliers opening their 2016-2017 season against the New York Knicks.

So, yes, downtown Cleveland will be extremely busy with two major sporting events happening at the same time. Game 1 and 2 of the World Series is set to begin at 8:08 p.m. The gates will open at Progressive Field at 5:30 p.m.

Former Indians outfielder Kenny Lofton will throw the ceremonial first pitch. International pop star Rachel Platten will perform the National Anthem.

Fans are encouraged to #RockRed to all World Series games at Progressive Field, and will receive a #RallyTogether towel upon entry to World Series home games.

Other Indians festivities include: 

  • Secretary of Navy Ray Mabus to present the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award to Red Sox pitcher Brad Ziegler, Hall of Famer Rod Carew and Chief Petty Officer Christopher “Rabbit” Beeding
  • Cleveland Metropolitan School District students to hold United States flag
  • Color guards from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard will present the colors
  • “We Are the Radio” to perform on Gateway Plaza 5:30-7:30PM, Destination Cleveland’s “This is CLE” letters also will be on the plaza for photo opportunities
  • Merch tent to be set up on east side of Gateway Plaza
  • SportsTime Ohio stage to be set up between King and Queen sculptures on Gateway Plaza

Cleveland to host "NBA on TNT Road Show" for NBA opening night, Wiz Khalifa to perform

The Cavs will kick off the season with a party outside Quicken Loans Arena. The “NBA on TNT Road Show” will tip-off at 3 p.m. with a free concert and Cavs watch party taking place across the street from The Q in the Huron surface parking lot.

Wiz Khalifa will perform from the “Road Show” stage prior to the Opening Night game.

Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neil will provide pregame, halftime and postgame coverage LIVE from the site.

Cleveland police have designated the following as no parking areas for World Series games 1 and 2 from 12 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.:

  • Prospect Avenue from Ontario Street to East 14th Street. 
  • Huron Road from Ontario Street to Prospect Avenue.
  • Bolivar Road from East 9th Street to East 14th Street.
  • Carnegie Avenue from East 9th Street to East 14th Street.
  • East 9th Street from Superior Avenue to Carnegie Avenue.
  • East 4th Street from Huron Road to Prospect Avenue

No parking will be allowed on the north side of West Huron Street will from Ontario Street to Superior Avenue from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 am. This area will be used as a vehicle drop-off and pick-up location. 

More tips:

  • Gateway East Garage closed to daily and monthly parking. Gateway East Garage will be operating in a “Day Game” situation on Tuesday, October 25th. No cash parking or monthly parking passes will be permitted. Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers game-day parking will be permitted. This is for Tuesday, October 25th only. 
  • Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is expanding service for all World Series games and watch parties. Staff is also gearing up to serve Cavaliers fans on Tuesday by adding extra trains and extending rush-hour service. RTA employees will be on hand to direct customers and sell a $5 round-trip, commemorative World Series pass at the busiest stations. Service on all rail lines will operate up to 60 minutes after the game or watch parties end, even if the game goes into extra innings. For the RTA schedule click here
