Santa’s elves aren’t the only ones keeping watch this holiday season.

A quick search of the internet shows many examples of thieves swiping packages from front porches, sometimes following the delivery person or truck.

And there are local examples, like one recent case in Lyndhurst caught on a home surveillance camera.

A man is seen walking up to a home on Mayview Road Saturday afternoon.

The man can be seen in the video taking a package right off the front porch, getting into his white four-door Fusion with no license plate, and backing out of the driveway,

Lyndhurst Police want to alert the public this happens more often during the holiday season.

Police say there are some steps you can take.

  • You can request packages to be delivered to a back door.

  • Try to have packages delivered to a relative you know will be home

  • Have an agreement with a neighbor who is home to hold your packages for you.

  • If you’ll be home, request signature confirmation.

There's good news for police, home security cameras keep getting better, giving police a clear picture of the person they're trying to identify.

"I am hoping with the video somebody in Northeast Ohio will contact the Lyndhurst Police Department detective bureau and let us know the identity of this male, before he can take advantage of any other victims," said Lyndhurst detective Michael Scipione.
