STRONGSVILLE, Ohio - Strongsville police are asking for the public's help identifying three adults and two elementary school-age children whom Detective Steve Borowske says a local store's video surveillance cameras caught stealing a woman's wallet from her purse.
One adult can be seen on the video coaching one of the two children on how to steal from the store clerk's purse while the other two adults distract the clerk in the front of the store, away from her purse under the cash register's counter.
"I mean, 23 years of this and this is the first time we're using kids out there," said Borowske. "I've seen where they use the kids to push shopping carts outside so that the adults won't get caught for thefts, but this is new."
The store struck was inside South Park Mall. So far there have been no other Strongsville area stores reporting similar thefts by the theft ring using children, but Borowke says it is similar to thefts in mall stores as far as Lake county.
"Right now we need leads on who these adults and children might be," added Borowske
