'Stop Violence Against Women' rally planned for Wednesday in response to East Cleveland murders

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - A rally called "Stop the Violence Against Women" will be held Wednesday night at 5 p.m. in East Cleveland at the intersection of Shaw and Hayden Avenues.

Several activist groups plan on attending the rally and so will family members of one of last week's murder victims, 38-year-old Angela Deskins.

The family members of Christine Malone plan on attending the rally as well. Malone's body was found in March.

Yvonne Pointer, the mother of Gloria Pointer, is coming to show her support and speak about anti-violence.

Gloria Pointer was murdered in 1984. Her mother has since become an anti-violence activist.

Organizers are also asking men to join in a search of the neighborhood and stand against the violence.

"We are calling for 300 men to come out and show their presence on Shaw & Hayden to help with search parties to make sure there are no more bodies of women left in the fields or empty houses," the release said.

A news release asks that men show up at 2 p.m. at New Life Cathedral Church at 16200 Euclid Avenue to help search the neighborhood. They can join the rally afterward.
