LAKEWOOD, Ohio - A woman said she is "horrified" after a dog attacked and killed her dog while on the way to the Spooky Pooch Parade in Lakewood over the weekend.
The incident happened at about 1:35 p.m. Saturday on St. Charles Avenue just north of Franklin Avenue.
According to Lakewood police, a woman from Lakewood was getting out of the car with her two dogs. Both of the dogs -- a male Mastiff and a female Rottweiler -- were leashed, according to police.
Linda Ambrose, from North Royalton, was walking by with her Pomeranian, which was also leashed. That's when, according to police, the Mastiff grabbed the Pomeranian, shook it and killed it.
"I couldn't do anything to help him and everyone was yelling and screaming and she just couldn't get the dogs off of him," said Ambrose.
The Rottweiler was not involved in the attack, police said.
The owner of the Pomeranian, her daughter and 3-month-old granddaughter were on their way to the Spooky Pooch Parade, the daughter wrote on the Facebook page "Darwin Dogs ." The post said that as the women were walking on the sidewalk when the two dogs, that were on leashes, raced toward the Pomeranian, Presley, and attacked.
"My mother tried to pick him up but both dogs attacked again, the mastiff grabbed Presley by the neck, shook him and snapped his neck," said the post on Facebook.
Lakewood police said the dog owner will be charged with allowing her dog to attack another dog. The city will also schedule a dangerous dog hearing.
The owner said she hopes this story will raise awareness so something like this doesn't happen again.
