More than 100 reels of copper estimated to cost around $83,000 was reported stolen from Pentair, according to Solon police.

Police said on Dec. 8, Pentair's director of distribution reported between Sept. 1 and Dec. 8 an estimated 134 reels of copper with an estimated value of $83, 091 was stolen from the business, located at 6800 Arnold Miller Parkway.

The director told police the business noticed inventory shortages back in Sept. 2015 and initiated an investigation into the problem.

Police said Pentair installed a security camera on Dec. 7 in hopes of figuring out what was happening to the missing inventory.

After inventory counts were completed on Dec. 8, the company determined 20 reels of copper, valued at approximately $11,627, were missing.

According to police, a review of the surveillance video showed an employee removing a pallet of copper reels from a storage area and place it near the emergency exit door. The employee was then seen placing a small object in the threshold of the door to keep it from closing.

The next day at 12:28 a.m., police said three men were seen entering the building through the propped open emergency door, and took 20 reels of copper from the pallet.

The video was given to police who turned the case over to the detective bureau.
