Shaker Heights City Council rejected a proposal to ban pit bulls in the city at Tuesday's meeting.

The motion failed 5-2.

The council was considering a ban on new pit bulls in the city. Pit bulls that already lived in the city would be grandfathered in but would have to register with the city for a $20 per year fee.

In July, 71-year-old Annie Williams was attacked and killed by a pit bull in Shaker Heights. Williams' granddaughter, Tequila Williams, attended the meeting to encourage the council to pass the ban.

Council said that they will attempt further discussion on the ban.
