GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - A dump truck hit a high-voltage pole in Garfield Heights on Thursday sending cables onto several cars.
At about 10 a.m., the truck went under Rockside Road near the substation in Valley View and knocked down the lines, Lt. David Bailey said.
Police said two men were trapped inside their vehicles by the lines. A third man jumped out. He was transported to Marymount Hospital with minor injuries.
Bailey said 137,000 volts of power runs through those cables. The Illuminating Company called in crews from other cities to help with repairs, police said.
More than 5,200 FirstEnergy customers in Garfield Heights are without power.
Officers urge drivers to avoid Rockside Road and treat intersections as a four-way stop when traffic lights are not working.
