Police warn Rocky River homeowners about phony water department workers

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - Police in Rocky River are warning residents about people posing as water department employees.

Police Chief Kelly Stillman said they have received calls about a suspicious person knocking on doors and asking to check for "brown water." Cleveland Water employees are required to wear identification badges so residents should not be afraid to ask for proper ID, Stillman said.

He also recommended homeowners close their door and called Rocky River police, so officers can figure out what's going on.

"Should you see someone in your neighborhood that seems out of place, please pick up the phone and give us a call. We rely on you to be our extra set of eyes out there," Stillman said in a news release.
