Cleveland police said ride-sharing cars, taxis and limousines were to blame for some of the traffic issues after Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday, with dozens of drivers dropping off and picking up fans outside of the authorized zone.
Cleveland police said pick ups and drop offs are limited to W. Huron St. between Superior and Ontario.
But on Tuesday and Wednesday night, News 5’s cameras caught dozens of ride-sharing vehicles and limos dropping off in front of Progressive Field, blocking in some large buses filled with fans.
Cleveland police said those cars were responsible for the slowed traffic and delays.
Uber drivers like Brian Jones said he receives text messages from the company notifying him of the appropriate zones.
“They say head towards this area or head towards that area,” Jones said. “But some drivers might ignore it.”
Police were giving out warnings during Wednesday’s game to any vehicles dropping off passengers along the immediate perimeter of the ball park.
