Police looking for man who robbed Mayfield Heights woman in her wheelchair at knifepoint

MAYFIELD HTS., Ohio - Mayfield Heights police are looking for a man who robbed a woman in her wheelchair.

Thursday afternoon, police say a 53-year-old Judith Albert was passing under the I-271 bridge on the  Mayfield Road sidewalk in her motorized wheelchair when a white male in his 20s approached her from behind with a knife and asked for a cigarette.

"When I went into my purse to get the cigarette, when I came up, there was a knife right here and he said now we're going to go through your purse nice and easy," Albert said.

Albert said the man took $22, a debit card and her prescription pain pills.  She had just deposited some money in the bank or he would have gotten more.

"My heart was pounding but I was just praying," she said. "I was praying to God the whole time."

The robber is described as having a thin build, weighing about 170 pounds and standing between six feet and six feet, two inches. He was wearing a blue hoodie, white tee shirt, blue baseball cap and jeans and had double pierced ears with earrings. The getaway car is a late model one, possibly GM, gray or silver, four-door, with rust under the doors.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Mayfield Heights Police Department at 440-442-2323.
