Police chase ends in Seven Hills after suspect loses control driving in reverse

SEVEN HILLS, Ohio - A police chase that started in Newburgh Heights around 1 a.m. Monday ended with the suspect crashing on Rockside Road in Seven Hills after going through multiple jurisdictions around 1:30 a.m.

Newburgh Heights police tell NewsChannel5 that the chase started in Newburgh Heights when an officer tried to stop the man for a traffic violation.

Officers used spike strips along Rockside Road near I-77 in Independence to slow the suspect but according to officers he began driving in reverse after losing his rear tires.

The chase ended when the suspect, still driving in reverse, lost control at Rockside Road and Pinnacle Park Drive. The suspect was able to run from the car for a short distance before being arrested.

An ambulance was called to the scene to check the suspect before he was placed in a patrol car and taken away by Newburgh Heights police.

Newburgh Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, Independence, Garfield Heights, Parma, and Seven Hills all were involved in the pursuit.
