Parma is the place to be for pet, music and rib lovers this weekend

Pet Adopt-A-Thon and Rib 'N Rock events to be held

PARMA, Ohio - If you love the taste of ribs, the sound of music and are also thinking about getting a new furry friend, then Parma is the place to be this weekend for two fun events.

The 24th annual Rib 'N Rock will take place at The Shoppes at Parma. This year's event will be at a new location in the parking lot west of Walmart along Ames Road.

There will be ribs, ethnic specialties, rides, games and entertainment. Admission is $3, with children 12 and under free.

The Rib 'N Rock days and times are as follows:

  • Thursday, June 5         4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Friday, June 6             4 p.m. to 11 p.m.                                                                     
  • Saturday, June 7         1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 8           1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Parma Animal Shelter will also be hosting their annual Adopt-A-thon on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shelter located at 6260 State Road.

There will be PAS frozen treats for dogs (while they last). There will also be live music, raffle baskets, children's fair, cook out and classic car show (Sunday only).

The following activities will also take place each day:    

 

  • Special pet blessing        11:30 a.m.
  • Obedience training          10:30 a.m.
  • Dog walk                        noon

All dog walk participants must register beginning at 11 a.m.

As part of the annual Adopt-A-thon, Parma Police Department will hold a swearing-in ceremony for the Department's new K-9 officer, Coney,  just prior to the dog parade, which starts at noon, on Saturday, June 7.
