PARMA, Ohio - Parma Police Department is taking applications for its Citizen Police Academy set to begin Sept. 24.
The program is intended to open the lines of communication between the community and the department. The purpose of the academy is not to train individuals to become police officers, but to better inform citizens.
The academy is 10 weeks long and will take place on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The cost is free for individuals selected for the academy. Applicants are not required to be Parma residents.
