Two Cleveland men have been arrested following a police chase and crash that resulted in the destruction of a Cleveland restaurant.

Lt. Kevin Riley with the Parma Police Department said two men, 18-year-old Kevin Kelly III and 20-year-old Deante Garrett from Cleveland, were taken into custody after Lt. Riley said the pair stole a 2016 Chrysler 200 sedan from Spitzer Dodge Jeep Chrysler on Brookpark Road. It happened around 3:15 a.m.

Police were already on scene working surveillance after the dealership reported someone previously broke in and stole keys.

Garrett was arrested in the parking lot and charged with breaking and entering, but Kelly fled police in the stolen Chrysler, police said, leading then on a chase down W. 130th Street into the city of Cleveland.

The chase ended at 4500 Rocky River Dr. when the car smashed into the Garden Grill Restaurant.

The restaurant only recently opened and was formerly a Taco Bell.

The car leaked oil and ignited a fire. The building was gutted by flames.

“When criminals make decisions to commit crimes such as this, they don’t think about the consequences,” Lt. Riley said. "And when they flee from the police, they don’t think about the consequences. It’s unfortunate. We’re thankful nobody got injured. The individuals were taken into custody safely. Nobody was injured. They were not injured. The officers were not injured.”

Kelly was taken to MetroHealth and released. He’s charged with felony fleeing and eluding, Lt. Riley said.

Investigators will ask a grand jury for additional charges.
