One man is dead after a suspected drug deal took a violent turn on the west side of Cleveland on Thursday.

Police said the two men, both 21 years old, met at a neighborhood store with plans to buy marijuana from Neeko Gordon. Gordon,18, told the men to meet him near West 38th Street and Robert Avenue. Investigators say when the two men drove past Gordon, he fired shots at their vehicle, hitting one in the head.

The uninjured man attempted to drive the two of them to the hospital, but crashed a few blocks away near West 25th Street and Meyer Avenue.

Police responded to reports of a man shot at the scene of the crash and provided first aid until EMS arrived and took the man to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he later died.

A witness involved in the crash, who asked to remain anonymous, said his vehicle was hit when the duo tried to navigate the intersection on the way to the hospital. The man said he heard tires screeching before his SUV was rear-ended. He looked back and saw a man with blood on his pants and arms scramble to pull someone out of the back seat of the car.

After the man pulled the wounded man from the car and onto the pavement, the witness said the driver began to give him CPR. The man giving CPR was last seen laying on the ground when police and EMS arrive to take the two men to MetroHealth.

Officers later arrested Gordon on the 3200 block of West 41st Street. The incident is still under investigation, and the medical examiner's office will determine the final cause of death.
