A shooting in Cleveland's Old Brooklyn neighborhood has startled homeowners on what they said was an otherwise quiet street.
A Cleveland man said someone shot up his home early Friday morning while he and his family slept.
Eugenio Moreno said his family woke up to the sound of gunshots between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. Friday at their home on Behrwald Ave. Nobody was injured.
On Saturday, bullet holes were visible along the home’s vinyl siding. One passed through a gutter, while others shattered a kitchen window and the back windshield on the family SUV.
Thankfully, the unknown gunman, or gunmen, missed the family’s front bedroom where Moreno’s wife and child were asleep.
“They would have died. They would have been shot,” he said.
Moreno believes he was targeted, but said he did not know for sure who was responsible.
He also said he was unhappy with police investigators, whom he said still had not returned to dust for fingerprints as of Saturday evening, but he said they did offer advice.
"Yeah they told me to move,” Moreno recalled. "They’re like, ‘You better move because next time we come here, we’re probably not going to be picking up gun shells. We’re going to be taking people out in body bags.'”
Moreno said he had not been able to sleep and he did intend to move.
Neighbors News 5 spoke with said they could not recall witnessing any sort of gun violence on that street in many years, if not decades.
“That was the first time I ever heard gunshots. It just woke us right out of bed," Dail Wesemeyer said.
“I’m shocked! I’m shocked," Tim Thomas said. "I’ll walk around this neighborhood at night.”
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said officers filed a report, collected shell casings and took photos. They have no suspects.
